Radio channel

Transmission channel, in which signals are transmitted by radio.

Radio equipment

A product which intentionally emits or receives radio waves in order to serve its purpose.

Radio frequency

Any frequency within the radio frequency spectrum.

Radio horizon

The locus of points at which direct rays (of waves) from an source of radio waves are tangential to the surface of the Earth.

Radio link

1) A means of (radio) telecommunication with specified characteristics between two points. 2) In radio communications a general term used to indicate the existence of communication facilities between two points

Radio network

1) A series of points interconnected by radiocommunication channel. 2) An interconnection of three or more radiocommunication entities that are not physically connected. 3) A set of radiocommunication entities and links that provides connections between two or more defined points to facilitate wireless communication between them.

Radio range

Area boundary at which asked the reception quality criterion is met (in the presence of specific interference) with a certain probability.

Radio Regulations

Intergovernmental treaty text of the International Telecommunication Union. RR covers both legal and technical issues, it serves as a supranational instrument for the optimal international management of the radio spectrum .

Radio signal

The signal generated and / or received by a radio device.

Radio station

A complete assemblage of equipment for radio transmission or reception, or both.

Radio transmitter

A radio device producing radio-frequency energy for purpose of radiocommunication.

Radio waves

Electromagnetic waves of frequencies arbitrarily lower than 3 000 GHz, propagated in space without artificial guide.

Radiocommunication

Telecommunication by means of radio waves.

Radiocommunication service

A service involving the transmission, emission and/or reception of radio waves for specific telecommunication purposes.

Radiocommunication system

The telecommunication system uses a unified whole radio technology.

Receiver

Station used to receive radio signals.

Receiver (input) power

Predisposed power at the input terminals of the receiver.

Notes

Usually measured in mW or dBm.

Receiver sensitivity

1) A measure of its ability to receive weak signals and to produce an output having usable strength and acceptable quality. 2) The minimum magnitude of input signal required to produce a specified output signal having a specified signal-to-noise ratio, or other specified criteria.

Recommendation (in telecommunications)

A document issued by the international telecommunications organization (e.g. ITU or CEPT) recommending member states a way to solve a certain problem concerned with telecommunications.

Reflected wave

The wave reflected from an object or structure (e.g. the Earth surface). In the case of propagation over the surface of the Earth is a component of the space wave.

Refraction

Redirection of a wavefront passing through: a) a boundary between two dissimilar media, or b) a medium having a refractive index that is a continuous function of position

Rounded obstacle

An obstacle, which cross-sectional shape is gently rounded.
