Bandwidth

1) The difference between limiting (upper and lower) frequencies within which performance of a device, in respect to some characteristic, falls within specific limits. 2) The difference between limiting frequencies of continuous frequency band.

Base station

1) A land station in the land mobile service (RR). 2) In personal communication system, the common name for all the radio equipment located at one fixed location, and that is used for serving one or several cells. 3) A generalized equipment set providing connectivity, management, and control of the subscriber station.

Beam

The space in which the antenna radiates or / and receives the major part of the energy.

Beamwidth

The total angle measured in a plane containing the direction of maximum radiation (beam), in degrees within which the radiated power in any direction does not fall more than 3 dB below the radiated power in the direction of maximum radiation.

Bit error rate

The number of bit errors divided by the total number of transferred bits during a studied time interval.

Notes

BER

Bit error ratio

The number of bit errors divided by the total number of transferred bits during a studied time interval.

Block edge mask

A transmitter spectrum mask that applies at the edge of a contiguous licensed block of spectrum and is designed to offer sufficient protection from interference to any anticipated receiving system in an adjacent frequency block.

Notes

BEM

Boresight

The axis of maximum gain (maximum radiated power) of a directional antenna.

Broadcasting satellite service

A radiocommunication service in which signals transmitted or retransmitted by space stations are intended for direct reception by the general public.

Broadcasting service

A radiocommunication service in which the transmissions are intended for direct reception by the general public. This service may include sound transmissions, television transmissions or other types of transmission.
